Trump caves on his own snubs as retaliation ploy against Dem governors backfires

President Donald Trump on Wednesday walked back a snub he gave to two Democratic Governors.

Last week, Trump notably did not invite Democratic governors Wes Moore of Maryland and Jared Polis of Colorado to the upcoming National Governors Association meeting at the White House. Trump told his aides at the time that he only wanted Republican governors at the event, which would also include face time with some of Trump's cabinet members, The New York Times reported.

But Trump changed his tune on Wednesday, The Times reported, and Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt (OK) called Moore and Polis to deliver the news.

"Mr. Stitt confirmed the reporting in a letter to governors on Friday and withdrew the N.G.A. as the official organizer of the event, saying that it would not pay for transportation to the gathering and that the association sought to represent all governors," the Times reported.

Trump has clashed with Moore over Trump's attempt to deploy the National Guard to Baltimore. He has also accused Polis of unfairly keeping Tina Peters, an avowed Trump fan and election denier, in jail.

Peters, a former county clerk, is serving a nine-year sentence for her role in a scheme to hack into Mesa County, Colorado's, election system.
