Nvidia has entered a multiyear partnership with Thinking Machines Lab and is committed to deploying at least one gigawatt of Vera Rubin systems. The companies also agreed to co-design training and serving infrastructure, and expand access to frontier models. Nvidia will invest in the startup to support its long-term growth, while both sides plan early deployment next year.

Nvidia Commits Gigawatt-scale Vera Rubin Deployment

Nvidia confirmed that it will supply more than one gigawatt of its next-generation Vera Rubin systems to Thinking Machines Lab. The companies said they will deploy the processors early next year and will design training and serving systems together. They also plan to broaden access to frontier and open models for enterprises, research institutions, and the scientific community.

Thinking Machines CEO Mira Murati said, “Nvidia’s technology is the foundation on which the entire field is built.” She added that the partnership accelerates their capacity to build systems that people can shape and use. The company stated that the collaboration will support multimodal research and adaptable systems.

Thinking Machines Expands Research and Infrastructure Plans

Mira Murati founded Thinking Machines Lab in early 2025 after leaving OpenAI in 2024. She had briefly served as OpenAI’s CEO in 2023 before the board reinstated Sam Altman. The new company focuses on research and product development for advanced systems.

The team includes creators of widely used tools such as ChatGPT and PyTorch. The company emphasizes collaboration with the global research community and real-world testing. It also supports open sharing of methods, models, and data.

The partnership with Nvidia will support large-scale training infrastructure and enterprise access. The companies said they will design systems optimized for Nvidia architectures. They will also provide broader access to frontier models for researchers and institutions.

Nvidia has announced several agreements in recent months. On March 2, it disclosed deals with Coherent and Lumentum to develop optics technologies. In February, it confirmed a multiyear partnership with Meta.

OpenAI also revealed that Nvidia would invest $30 billion as part of a $110 billion fundraising round. Meanwhile, Nvidia reported third-quarter earnings per share of $1.30 on revenue of $57.01 billion. Its data center business generated $51.2 billion in sales, and the company projected fourth-quarter revenue of $65 billion, plus or minus 2%.
