WisdomTree, an asset management firm with $150 billion in assets under management, has now positioned its crypto business as a core part of its strategy. CEO Jonathan Steinberg confirmed that the firm’s digital asset division is no longer an experiment but is poised for profitability. During a fireside chat at the Ondo Summit in New York, Steinberg outlined the firm’s growing investments in blockchain infrastructure and tokenized funds.
Jonathan Steinberg emphasized that WisdomTree’s crypto efforts are no longer experimental. “We want to continue to scale,” he said. Last year, the firm saw substantial growth, increasing its assets from $30 million to $750 million. Although the firm has not yet turned a profit on its crypto ventures, it expects to reach profitability soon. Steinberg highlighted that the company’s investments in blockchain infrastructure and tokenized funds reflect its long-term commitment to digital assets.
In addition to expanding its assets, WisdomTree has ventured into new blockchain networks, including Solana. “We believe eventually everything will go on chain,” said Steinberg, expressing confidence in the future of digital assets. This strategy includes a focus on blockchain technology to build a more modern financial infrastructure, replacing legacy systems.
WisdomTree has been at the forefront of integrating tokenized funds into its offerings. The firm’s tokenized assets have experienced tremendous growth, increasing 25 times since 2024. Steinberg emphasized that this growth demonstrates the firm’s commitment to the crypto sector, showing that it is not just about product offerings, but about shaping the future of financial services. The firm’s recent earnings report revealed that its WisdomTree tokenized assets under management (AUM) grew to $770 million.
The introduction of WisdomTree Connect has also expanded the reach of its tokenized assets. The platform allows assets to move across self-custodied wallets and institutional platforms, adding flexibility and ease of use for investors. With these advances, WisdomTree continues to position itself as a leader in the digital asset space among traditional asset managers.
Beyond tokenized assets, WisdomTree has also made key acquisitions to further its digital asset strategy. The firm acquired Securrency, a compliance-focused tokenization company, which it later sold to the DTCC. Steinberg noted that the acquisition was essential in building a foundation for “compliance-aware tokens” and programmable finance. These moves have set the stage for a long-term, interoperable digital asset strategy, positioning WisdomTree for sustained growth in the crypto market.
For Steinberg, the firm’s push into digital assets is more than a product opportunity. “This is really about financial services,” he stated. He believes that the modernization of financial services will require the adoption of blockchain technology, as it provides a foundation for the future.
