Vitalik Buterin Backs an Altcoin Focused on Privacy and Finality

Vitalik Buterin has quietly reinforced his long-standing view that privacy remains core to crypto’s future, backing a major Zcash consensus upgrade at a moment when regulatory focus is shifting toward structure and control rather than censorship resistance.

His donation to Shielded Labs places Zcash’s next technical evolution squarely inside a broader conversation about how blockchains defend finality and user privacy at scale.

The funding supports Crosslink, a consensus upgrade being developed by Shielded Labs, led by Zcash creator Zooko Wilcox-O’Hearn. The project is designed to modernize Zcash’s security architecture without abandoning its Proof-of-Work roots.

Rather than replacing PoW, Crosslink adds a parallel finality layer on top of existing block production. This hybrid approach allows miners to continue securing the chain while an additional consensus mechanism locks in transactions, making deep chain reorganizations economically and technically impractical.

Finality as a Long-Term Security Lever

One of Crosslink’s core goals is to harden Zcash against rollback and reorganization attacks, which become more relevant as block rewards decline over time. By introducing finality, confirmed transactions become irreversible, shifting security guarantees away from raw hash power alone.

That change also has economic implications. Stronger finality reduces the amount of ongoing security spend required to protect the network, addressing a long-running concern around sustainability for PoW chains as issuance trends downward.

Why Buterin’s Involvement Is Not Accidental

This marks Buterin’s second donation to Shielded Labs, following an initial contribution in 2023 that helped form the team. His continued involvement is notable because it comes outside Ethereum’s own roadmap and focuses instead on strengthening privacy-preserving infrastructure elsewhere in the ecosystem.

In public remarks, Vitalik Buterin described Zcash as one of the industry’s most trusted projects, citing its consistency on privacy rather than trend-driven narratives. That endorsement carries weight in 2026, as regulatory frameworks increasingly prioritize transparency and compliance, often at the expense of on-chain privacy tools.

Independent Development, Independent Funding

Shielded Labs operates entirely outside Zcash’s formal block reward funding structure, relying solely on donations. That independence allows the team to pursue long-horizon protocol upgrades without being constrained by short-term governance or budget cycles.

Buterin’s support reinforces that model, signaling confidence not just in Zcash as a network, but in independent, donation-funded development as a viable path for maintaining core crypto values.

Structural Takeaway

The Crosslink donation is less about philanthropy and more about signaling. At a time when privacy-focused projects face mounting external pressure, Buterin’s backing frames Zcash as infrastructure worth hardening, not sidelining. If Crosslink succeeds, it may offer a template for how PoW chains can evolve their security guarantees without abandoning decentralization or privacy in the process.

The post Crypto News: Donald Trump-Aligned Fed Governor To Speed Up Fed Rate Cuts? appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. In recent crypto news, Stephen Miran swore in as the latest Federal Reserve governor on September 16, 2025, slipping into the board’s last open spot right before the Federal Open Market Committee kicks off its two-day rate discussion. Traders are betting heavily on a 25-basis-point trim, which would bring the federal funds rate down to 4.00%-4.25%, based on CME FedWatch Tool figures from September 15, 2025. Miran, who’s been Trump’s top economic advisor and a supporter of his trade ideas, joins a seven-member board where just three governors come from Democratic picks, according to the Fed’s records updated that same day. Crypto News: Miran’s Background and Quick Path to Confirmation The Senate greenlit Miran on September 15, 2025, with a tight 48-47 vote, following his nomination on September 2, 2025, as per a recent crypto news update. His stint runs only until January 31, 2026, stepping in for Adriana D. Kugler, who stepped down in August 2025 for reasons not made public. Miran earned his economics Ph.D. from Harvard and worked at the Treasury back in Trump’s first go-around. Afterward, he moved to Hudson Bay Capital Management as an economist, then looped back to the White House in December 2024 to head the Council of Economic Advisers. There, he helped craft Trump’s “reciprocal tariffs” approach, aimed at fixing trade gaps with China and the EU. He wouldn’t quit his White House gig, which irked Senator Elizabeth Warren at the September 7, 2025, confirmation hearings. That limited time frame means Miran gets to cast a vote straight away at the FOMC session starting September 16, 2025. The full board now features Chair Jerome H. Powell (Trump pick, term ends 2026), Vice Chair Philip N. Jefferson (Biden, to 2036), and folks like Lisa D. Cook (Biden, to 2028) and Michael S. Barr…
