Markwayne Mullin, American politician serving as Oklahoma’s junior United States senator, has filed a new Periodic Transaction Report, revealing a rather suspicious joint stock purchase.
Namely, on February 25, Mullin purchased between $50,000 and $100,000 worth of shares in UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH), the largest health insurer in the country.

What makes the move noteworthy is the Republican’s position on the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, which oversees federal health policy and regulates sectors that include major insurance providers such as UnitedHealth.
Moreover, Mullin was recently nominated to lead the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, an agency currently conducting a large-scale probe into alleged Medicaid fraud. The investigation centers on roughly $124 billion in suspected fraudulent claims.

The combination of Mullin’s committee role, his stock purchase in a major health insurer, and the ongoing federal investigation into Medicaid spending has raised questions among observers about potential conflicts of interest.
Interestingly, the February purchase was the senator’s first rodeo with the stock. Indeed, he reported selling between $15,001 and $50,000 worth of UNH shares on August 1, 2025, which made him miss a 50% upside when the stock rallied over the next month.
However, he made another purchase on September 24, 2025, when UnitedHealth was starting to recover. Since then, the stock has fallen 20%, but Mullin’s latest moves imply he may be betting on a rally.
At the time of his latest purchase, UNH shares were trading at $273, their lowest level in the past thirty days. Today, at the time of writing, they are changing hands at $282.
